X-Ray Preparation

General speaking, taking x-ray has no specific preparation, but you must undress whatever part of your body needs examination. You may wear a plain cotton tops during the exam, depending on which area is being X-rayed. Please do not wear any clothing that contain metal buttons, snaps or zippers. You may also be asked to remove watch, brooch, hearing aid, jewelry, eyeglasses, any metal objects or even plastic objects because they can show up on an X-ray. Sometimes you may be asked to change into a disposable gown for certain types of examination.

Sonography/Ultrasound Preparation

Pelvic Ultrasound
One hour before your exam, drink at least 3 glasses(16 ounces) of water.
DO NOT URINATE.
Abdominal Ultrasound
Absolutely no drinking and eating 6 hours before the examination.
Transrectal Prostate Ultrasound
Use Fleet enema prior to the examination. Drink 3 glasses(16 ounces) of water one hour before your appointment.

Mammogram Preparation

On the day of your appointment, DO NOT use any perfume, cream, powder or deodorant on the breasts or underarms. Please bring with you all prior mammograms, breast ultrasounds, and breast MRIs on the day of the exam.

CT Scan Preparation

IV contrast exams only: Do not eat 4 hours prior to the examination, you may drink water.
If you are diabetic and taking a medication show as following list, it should be discontinued at the time of or prior to your examination. It should not be taken for the 48 hrs. After your examination. At that time, your kidney function should be re-evaluated by your physician, and you should not start taking metformin again until kidney function has been found to be normal.

DEXA Preparation

Do not take any calcium supplements at least 24 hours before the examination. Tell us if you had received any x-ray exam recently, especially of contrast material examination.
